Berryhill Love

Let me start off by saying this post is not written for long-time Houston residents. I would not insult your intelligence by assuming that you have never heard of Berryhill Baja Grill. I would not assume that you don’t actually know the exact location of the closest Berryhill in reference to your home, your office, and your best friend’s home. That you don’t already know when they open and when they close. Or that you aren’t actually enjoying a Berryhill creation even at this moment.

But for our readers who are just setting up shop inside the loop, this post is for you. And I definitely want to be the first person to relay the good news about Berryhill!

This place has the most delicious, fresh-tasting Baja-style cuisine you’ll find this side of the Rio Grande. It’s casual and laid-back. It’s affordable. And it’s as good as any upscale Mexican restaurant you’ll find. And the best part is that this local chain is expanding and locations are popping up all over Houston. But Berryhill is more than a restaurant. It’s a little piece of Houston history.

In 1928, one man started selling the world’s best tamales from a cart in River Oaks. When he stopped selling his divine creations 40 years later, the people nearly staged an uprising. But in 1993, the recipe was revived and the first Berryhill opened its doors.

Now, their famous, Zagat-rated fish tacos and tamales are Houston staples. Berryhill is a great place to grab a quick lunch with colleagues or a weekend snack. And it fits the budget. Fish tacos are $1.99. $1.99!!! I can’t make this stuff up. You can even make a night of it at Berryhill’s with regular live music, unlimited chips and salsa, and cold margaritas. Check out Berryhill Baja Grill in your neighborhood. It’s probably right around the corner.
