Amazing October Events in Houston

October is finally here, which means we can all celebrate a fresh start with a new month! I just love a new month, don’t you? And who doesn’t love October? One, there are always plenty of fun costume parties. Two, we might have a cool day (or two). And three, we’re one month closer to the holidays. But until then, you can keep busy with these awesome events going on this month right here in Houston:

1. Texas Renaissance Festival

You might not think of Texas as an obvious place to host a Renaissance Fest. But then again, there are very few things we DON’T have in Texas. If jousting is your thing, you won’t want to miss this eight week long festival honoring a simpler time of beheadings and chain mail (and I don’t mean those pesky, superstitious emails your Aunt Rita always sends you).

2. Fashion Houston 2010

Didn’t make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this year? No tears. You can get your fill of glitz and glamor at the first Fashion Houston 2010. October 11 will be the first of four fierce days at the Wortham Center with parties, trunk shows, and fashion shows with some of the top names in the biz, including Houston’s own Kalyn Hemphill, model and winner of Models of the Runway Season One. It’s gonna be major, y’all.

3. Houston Beer Week

If Fashion Houston 2010 isn’t really your scene, I think I might know what is. On October 11, Houstonians will be overwrought with joy at the start of seven straight days of beer appreciation events and general merriment at Houston Beer Week. If you have a hard time deciding between Bud Light and Michelob Ultra, this is event is sure to be system overload.

4. Wings Over Houston Air Show

War history buffs and newbies alike are sure to love this spectacular event at Ellington Airport. Ranked as one of the top five air shows in the country, Wings Over Houston features civilian, modern military, and vintage aircraft. October 23-24 will mark the 26th annual event, a tradition in Houston.

5. Zeigenbock Music Festival

This is Texas after all and we sure do love our country music. Thank goodness for the Zeigenbock Music Festival at Sam Houston Race Park, when we get to see some of our country music favorites, like Gary Allan, and some of the best Texas country artists, like Roger Creager, all in one place. Just $20 gets you in on both days if you buy online!

6. 2010 RE/MAX Ballunar Liftoff Festival

A Houston tradition at Johnson Space Center! Don’t miss this incredible kid and adult friendly event on October 29-31 that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. In addition to a massive air balloon launch, you’ll eat food from local restaurants, see exhibits and sky diving exhibitions, enjoy live entertainment and lots more. Admission is $10 per car so pack ‘em in!

So many fun things to do in Houston this month so we better get busy!
