2012 Events for your Calendar

At the beginning of a new year, twelve months feels like such a long time. I’ll look at events on my calendar that are four, six or even eight months away, and they seem lifetimes away.

But then before I know it, they’re right around the corner. Because time flies.

This is exactly how I sometimes miss my favorite Houston events. I think I have plenty of time only to end up double-booked or ticketless to a sold out show. There are few annual events that you don’t to miss, so put them on your calendar now.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

…is literally on our heels. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a three week event held at Reliant Stadium every spring. It is the largest livestock show and rodeo in the country with great events and exhibits as well as some of the best musical talent in the industry. The concert line-up for this year’s rodeo is out so it’s time to buy tickets. Before it’s too late.

White Linen Night in the Heights

Even white linens can’t cool off a steamy summer night in Houston, but they keep trying every year. This festival brings food, music, fashion, art and more to the quirky Heights and attendees wear white. It’s a charming southern tradition you won’t want to miss. The 2012 date has not yet been announced so keep checking their site and mark your calendars.

Houston Restaurant Week

What began as one week of great food has expanded to a whole month. For the month of August, participating Houston restaurants feature multi-course menus at special prices and donate a portion of their profits to the Houston Food Bank. In a food city like Houston, this event makes for a busy month in the restaurant business. Pick your restaurants and make your reservations early.

Halloween Pub Crawl in Montrose

If you weren’t planning to dress this Halloween, it’s time to reconsider. This needs to be the year you do the Montrose Halloween Pub Crawl. Not only is it a blast, but it promises some of the best costume sightings and people-watching you’ll find in Houston.

Bayou City Art Festival

This incredible art festival is an absolutely must if you collect or just appreciate art. Artists from all over the country convene to showcase and sell their art. So if you need a conversation piece to go over your mantle in your new apartment, you might want to make a day of it. Memorial Park show dates are March 23 – 25.
