Shake Shack confirms second Houston location.

Houston will be home to not one, but two Shake Shacks by the end of next year.

The wildly popular burger, milkshake and crinkly fries chain plans to open a new location in Rice Village in late 2017, according to a statement. The restaurant will take over the current La Madeleine cafe at the corner of Kirby Drive and Amherst Street.

The second location will join Rice Village as it undergoes a multimillion-dollar renovation. The 296,000-square-foot retail center, previously known as the Village Arcade, was taken over by Rice Management Co., which named Fort Worth-based Trademark Property Co. as property manager in 2014.

Trademark plans to start renovations with improving the southwest portion of the property, opposite of the new Shake Shack.
