In case you actually have some free time before the holidays, there are some fun things happening in Houston this month. Add a few cool events to your calendar!

Cinema Arts Festival Houston

Starting today and continuing through the 14th, the Cinema Arts Festival Houston will honor some of the greatest in film. Guests include John Turturro, Isabella Rosselini and Shirley MacLaine, who will accept the 2010 Texas Film Award. This is a great even for art lovers and film buffs and brings together some of Houston’s best respected art institutions, including The Menil Collection and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Houston Premium Outlets Expansion Celebration

Get your holiday shopping finished before the first turkey is done at the Houston Premium Outlets Expansion Celebration! Starting tomorrow and going through the 14th, shoppers will enjoy live entertainment and in-store promotions as well as 25 new shops at Houston’s most celebrated outlet mall. New stores include Saks Fifth Avenue Off Fifth, David Yurman, and J. Crew.

27th Annual French-American Wine and Food Festival

This is an absolute must for food and wine lovers. Hosted by the French American Chamber of Commerce, this decadent even of wine and food will be held at the JW Marriott from 6:30 to 9 pm on November 18th. Enjoy delicious food and wine pairings, live music, a silent auction, and more. Tickets are $35 for Commerce members and $55 for non-members. Tickets on the day of the event will $60 for everyone, so book your tickets in advance!

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at U of H

This hilarious and moving stage adaption of a story about a church Christmas pageant torpedoed by a family of misfits is one of the greatest holiday stories of all time. People of all ages will enjoy this incredible tale (and it’s a great alternative to the Nutcracker!). The production is presented by the University of Houston’s Theater for Young audiences and will run at the Wortham Theater November 19-21st.

Wortham Theater Center Tree Lighting Ceremony

Turn out the night before Thanksgiving to watch the lighting of the huge tree at the Wortham Center, hosted by the Houston Ballet, the Houston Grand Opera, and the City of Houston. Admission is free and cookies and punch will be served.

H-E-B Holiday Parade

Why watch the Macy’s parade on television when you can a spectacular Thanksgiving Day Parade in person right here in Houston? The H-E-B Holiday Parade is an epic event for all ages. And, standing street-side watching the parade is bound to burn off more pumpkin pie than dozing in front of the Cowboys’ game. Am I right?

51st Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts AutoRama Car Show

This event takes place at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Therefore, it’s huge. You’ll see more shiny cars and hot rods than you can shake a stick at. A car lover’s paradise, for four straight days, November 25th through the 28th.
