There’s New Life in West University

Houston recently lost a loved one. The cherished Wagner Hardware on Kirby closed up shop after many years of providing stellar customer service and quality products to contractors, architects, and do-it-yourself-ers all over Houston. It was the end of an era, a time “gone with the wind”…

Okay. I’m stopping. Honestly though, devoted Wagner’s patrons still drop by the old location expecting to find it there and are shocked when they don’t. But what they do find is something equally great, in the time-honored tradition of Wagner’s Hardware but with a mission that is sure to inspire a new era of home improvement and healthy living in Houston.

New Living started as a department in Wagner’s and when the hardware store closed a few years ago, the team behind the green materials section launched an entire store full of healthy, eco-friendly materials and products for designing and building safe, sustainable home spaces. The New Living team reused and re-purposed as much as possible from the existing facility and created a fresh retail environment overflowing with green goodness with the mission of providing affordable, green home materials, including:

  • No VOC, non-toxic paints and finishes
  • Counter tops
  • Custom cabinets
  • Back splashes
  • Flooring
  • Carpets
  • Window and wall coverings
  • Bedding
  • Non-toxic and organic mattresses
  • Non-toxic cleaning products
  • Organic baby products

This is the short list, folks. There’s no end to what you’ll find in this store. And many of the products available brandish house labels, like a flooring line, recycled glass counter tops made from Houston’s own glass bottles, and an entire line of non-toxic paint.

New Living also offers a menu of consulting and green services. You can purchase one-on-one time with a New Living team member and bend their ear about all things eco-friendly and your home. They’ll even come to your house for a personal color consultation. You can also hire New Living to clean your home using earth-friendly products and take away your recycling.

As a renter, sometimes you face limited design choices. You might not be ripping out the bathroom tile or the kitchen counters any time soon. But you can still make it your own. And if you wish, you can do so using products that make you and the planet a little healthier with the help of New Living. You might want to buzz through to check out the mattresses at the very least. They. are. Heaven.

Just another reason to love Houston, y’all.
