Thousands gather to kick off Houston’s new theater season!

Thousands of people milled about downtown Houston’s Theater DistrictSunday as the city’s robust industry of performing arts kicked off its 2016-2017 season.

Marching bands hammered beats in the streets, costumed ballerinas eluded eloquence, actors paraded in renaissance garb and youngsters banged, bowed and blew at the “instrument petting zoo.” The doors of Houston’s great halls stood open.

Organizers estimated that 10,000 people turned out to the Theater District’s annual open house,

“This city is always known for oil and gas and the energy capital, but we are so much more,” said  Mayor Sylvester Turner as he made rounds at the event.
