Washington Avenue, Folks

Yes. That is the thermometer in my car. Yes, it reads 106 degrees. It’s official. Summer has arrived in Houston. I’ll pause while you program your A/C repairman’s phone number into speed dial.

It’s summertime, folks. And you know it’s summertime, almost, anyway, because Memorial Day is upon us. I hope everyone has some fun plans in the works. But if not, I know how you can kick off this beloved holiday: with a trip down to Washington Avenue.

New Orleans has Bourbon Street. Austin has 6th Street. And Houston has good ole Washington Avenue. If you and your friends want to make a night of, crawling from one bar to the next, this is the place to go. Needless to say, it’s where it’s at.

Washington Avenue is located close to the Heights, which is perfect for all of those kooky Heights dwellers. The street has literally tons of unique and eclectic after-dark spots. You’re bound to have a favorite after a few trips, as well a few favorites for when you’re in a mood. For example:

Washington Avenue is close to your favorite Houston neighborhoods, like Midtown and the Heights. But they also know how to have fun the safe way. The Washington Avenue Wave keeps the night going strong while keeping you safe on the Avenue. Catch the Wave to all the different bars on Washington, as well as different locations in Midtown and the Heights. Wave Riders even get free parking. You can’t beat that!

There’s no other way to do the nightlife scene in Houston. Washington Avenue is an absolute must and it’s destined to be your Friday night destination, whether you like to cut a rug or stay low key. Houston residents: what’s your favorite Washington Avenue night spot?
